After a first workshop on the transmission of living cultural heritage organised in May 2019 in Guyana and then a workshop on the development of ecotourism in November 2019 in Suriname, this third working session will focus on goldmining and strategies for controls implemented by the three countries in and around protected areas.

Around sixty participants from the three country-partners are expected to attend this workshop. Protected area managers, experts in the fight against goldmining, representatives of public institutions, NGOs and local communities concerned by this thematic will discuss the issues and challenges encountered in each country, as well as the opportunities for cooperation. The working sessions will focus on the legal framework of each territory (an overview of the mining laws and strategies of each country); the current situation in protected areas related to the thematic ; the actions already in place at the borders and the impacts on local communities.

The exchanges from this workshop will contribute to the conception of a synthetic overview on the thematic and to an action plan for strategies to fight illegal goldmining in and around protected areas.
